So, why learn a language to read theory as intended? Especially given multiple translations which more or less do the job?
Well, reading a piece in its original allows you to discern any hidden meaning along with better understanding the culture of the author. Poetry is especially difficult to translate and should really only be appreciated by the speakers of the original language. Goethe doesn't sound so epic in English as he does in German.
Access to another world of research materials, news and information:
If you only know English, then you're really limiting yourself in terms of the sort of research that you can do, you practically are limited to Marxists.org, libcom.org or other sites however there exists another world of modern theoreticians, especially from Russia and China that are simply not available to the English speaking audience.
Examples of such resources are:
http://redchinacn.net/portal.php
You will be able to access these resources, read them and be able to seriously approach the study of Chinese revolutionary groups without relying on this western conception of China, often dominated by uncritical pro Deng crowd.
In Russian you have sources such as:

Not to mention Russian youtube which is way more anti-capitalist than anything in the west:

You can probably read Stalin without learning Russian, you can do without all that but what you cannot do is seriously research first-hand information, news etc. without knowing the language, at least to the level where you feel comfortable with reading political texts.
Challenge your western conceptions
When you are brought up in a certain cultural sphere, you absorb the values, morality and thought patterns of it, if all you get, is information from the same place, then you'll be like the person in Plato's allegory of the cave, knowing only shadows to be your reality. Knowing another language, being able to look up information in that language also opens a door for you, a door to a different way of thinking, feeling, morality etc.
We think that it's worth to put effort just for that.
*Note, liberals like to learn languages for self satisfaction, it's all about being 'cultured' and better than others, a polyglot may have bragging rights and think of themselves as simply better.
This is not the purpose of what we are doing. It's not going to be about you learning languages so you can impress some folks or get better job opportunities, be able to live in some far-away land, it is going to have a focus on political knowledge, on understanding theory and being able to look information up in the various websites not-accessible to the English speaking world.
It is about development of political knowledge and research, this is what our blog is about, and we are here to deliver you tips for language learning from a revolutionary anti-capitalist focus!
